First Blog!!

It's November 8, 2012 - we received our call to South Africa Cape Town Mission almost 2 months ago, on September 13, 2012.  By the way, the call letter was dated September 11, 2012, interesting!
Still can't believe it's South Africa!

We have talked to many return missionaries about South Africa - seen some beautiful photos and found out some great hikes to take, magnificent views to see, and "must-see" places to visit!  We are excited

Having already sold our home with furniture, we have been living in a furnished condo in Black Rock.  We put all the stuff we still have in storage, we don't have much.  We stored our piano, art, food storage, books and holiday decor.  A little strange not to have a home but we're getting use to it.

We have been very busy getting ready to go, mountains of paper work and collecting copies of documents.  It's amazing what you need to go to South Africa, finger prints, chest x-rays, driving records, diplomas, passport pictures (even though we have our passport), FBI clearance letter, police record letter, birth certificate etc - it's been an experience.  We have completed most everything - just a few items left.  We have completed the visa application and are just waiting for it now.

Here we are - ready to go!

  1. Oh, this makes me so happy!! I can't think of a better couple to serve our Heavenly Father's children in South Africa. Deb, you'll have to teach all the women how to play scrabble and phase 10. They will LOVE it.

Though you will be MISSED horribly here in the states--your service will make such a difference to these people that need the Good News more than ever. Mark and I love you both so much. You are the banana to our split, the Dr. to our Pepper, the cherry to our pie, and the apple to our eye!! I could go on forever as you know. HaHa. :)

Mark's uncle, Michael Watson served the first three years as a General Authority in Johannesburg, South Africa. They are spending the last two years in New Zealand. They loved their time in South Africa, and they weren't half as adventurous as the two of you.

Tell Pres Ren that if he needs anything--I'm just a plane ticket away. I know how he MISSES me and all!! Well, HUGS and KISSES to our favorite friends. Look forward to seeing you in Provo in a few weeks.
